CUPE 966 represents over 1,100 workers at the Region of Peel’s four Long-Term Care facilities. Our members work every day to ensure the highest quality of care for the residents of these homes.
We are deeply dedicated to our work and our residents, but we are facing multiple obstacles just to do our jobs.
Meet the members of CUPE 966:
In long-term care, every department plays an important role. When we’re short-staffed, it impacts each aspect of the work that we do. We must take on duties that don’t align with our job descriptions to ensure safety and service to the residents. This often means putting our own health and safety on the line.
Long-term care workers are not just doing a job – we are caring for your parents, grandparents, friends, and neighbors.
We’re prepared to do our part to serve our aging community, but we need our employers, municipal and regional council members to work with us. We need real investment into long-term care and the workers who provide it.
The issues we’re facing:
- Chronic understaffing
- Low pay and inadequate benefits
- High levels of stress and injury on the job
What we’re asking for:
- More full-time positions for greater job security and retention
- Better benefits for workers to take care of themselves and their families
- Improvements to paid sick leave, so staff don’t have to choose between their health and their pay
One day, we will all grow old. The quality of care our loved ones receive depends on the people who provide it. Investing in frontline workers means investing in the dignity, safety, and well-being of every resident.
With municipal elections coming up this fall, we need your support to ensure that long-term care remains a central issue.
