About us

We are the long-term care branch of CUPE 966, representing over 1,100 workers at the Region of Peel’s four long-term care facilities:

  • Malton Village
  • Peel Manor
  • Sheridan Villa
  • Tall Pines

We are personal support workers, nursing assistants, registered practical nurses, activity aides, dietary aides, custodians, maintenance workers, cooks, and so much more. We are the workers who make sure that facilities function, and that residents receive the care they need.

In Ontario, healthcare workers are denied the right to strike due to the Healthcare Labour Relations Dispute Arbitration Act (HLDAA). Employers have long used this barrier to sidestep negotiations and disregard the concerns of workers. This has resulted in widespread issues across the sector, including chronic understaffing, unsustainable workloads, health and safety concerns, and a shift to a casual workforce – impacting job security.

CUPE is Canada’s largest union, representing over 800,000 workers across the country. In Ontario, CUPE represents over 90,000 healthcare workers, including over 30,000 long-term care and retirement home workers. Our fight for a fair contract is a fight for all long-term care workers across the province.
